The Story

The Downtown Business District installed wayfinding and storytelling signs on streetlight poles on Main Street, Middletown, CT. Each sign includes a map of Main Street, and a profile of a person in our downtown business community. The first round of signs were installed in late 2018 and early 2019. There’s a natural lifecycle to the involvement of the businesses and people who make Main Street what it is. As retirements and business changes happen, we will maintain these profiles on this website, but note any updates.

Writing and primary photography done by Bailey Wright. Graphic Design by Ellen Maurer of Maurer Designs. Sign construction and printing by Young’s Printing of Middletown. Project coordination by DBD Commissioner Jen Alexander (Kidcity Children’s Museum), with help from Rani Arbo (Center for the Arts, Wesleyan University), Erin Dopfel (Kidcity Children’s Museum), and John Elmore (Center for the Arts, Wesleyan University).

The DBD is a special services taxing district created to support culture, commerce and community on the Main Street, Middletown, CT neighborhood.
